Bagman's Farm Town Info
Crop Planning Calculator
I have created a Crop Planning Calculator that you might find useful. Sample Output
It has evolved much from my original sheet posted the other night. This should be the final version I post here.
The spreadsheet is Excel 97-2003 format and should be accessible by just about everyone. It contains the following information:
- Crop - Name of the crop.
- Available Level - Level user can buy crop.
- Plow Cost - Amount it costs to plow a field.
- Seed Cost - Amount seeds cost at the store.
- Return - The amount you get paid when harvested. This is based upon someone else harvesting your crop, which gives the highest return and is the preferable method.
- Hours - The number of hours it takes a crop to grow. "1 Day" in Farm Town is actually 20 hours, not 24.
- # Planted - User inputs number of "plots" planted.
- Start Time - User inputs the date and time the crop was planted. This can be done with keyboard shortcuts - (Ctrl+; Ctrl+Shift+;) - or manually as long as it's in the correct format. This field is optional - see note
- Plowing Cost - Plow Cost * # Planted
- Planting Cost - Seed Cost * # Planted
- Total Cost - Plowing Cost + Planting Cost
- Harvest Return - Return * # Planted
- Profit - Harvest Return - Total Cost
- Profit per Hour - Profit / Hours (I prefer this to profit per day.)
- Harvester Pay per Plot - Amount someone is paid to harvest one plot of this crop.
- Harvester Pay for Job - Harvestor Pay per Plot * # Planted (Of course this can be divided amongst a number of workers.)
- % Complete - User inputs value Farm Town shows as complete. This is optional - see note.
- Time Left - Hidden field used in other calculations.
- Harvest Date - The date this harvest should come due.
- Harvest Time - The time this harvest should come due on the above date.
- Projected Spoil Date - The date this harvest should spoil.
- Projected Spoil Time - The time this harvest should spoil on the above date.
Notes:
- If you enter only the Start Time, the harvest and spoil dates will not change. If you enter % Complete, it will adjust the harvest and spoil date based on your system time at that moment.
If you enter both Start Time and % Complete, the spreadsheet will use % Complete for it's calculations. If you don't enter either, it will give bad dates. See the Sample Page for an example.

I would like to thank Matty Mulcher, Sandie Angel, DebraC28, CC and Pat - Forum Users and Friends who have provided a lot of feedback and advice into this process.
The Next Step
I am designing an online application with some additional features. You'll be able to name crops (e.g. South field, Watermelon 2, etc) so you can track multiple planting easier, upload pictures of your farm to share with others, and be notified via email or text message when your crops are ready or about to spoil.
